หนอนนก
หนอนนกมีคุณค่าทางอาหารค่อนข้างสูง ( ไขมัน , โปรตีน , รวมไปถึงแร่ธาตุ ต่าง ๆ อีกมากมาย ) นอกจากนี้แล้ว เราสามารถเพิ่มคุณค่าทางอาหารของหนอนนกได้ คือ การเลือกผักชนิดที่มีสารสีตามธรรมชาติ ได้แก่ แครอท , มะเขือเทศ , ขมิ้น หรือ อาหารปลาชนิดเม็ดที่มีสารเร่งสี เช่น อาหารเม็ดผสมสาหร่ายสไปรูลิน่า , ผสมกุ้ง , ผสม astaxantin นำมาเป็นวัตถุดิบ

โดยเราจะใช้อาหารเม็ดที่เตรียมไว้ หรือ หั่นผักเป็นชิ้นเล็ก ๆ ใส่ให้หนอนนกกิน เมื่อหนอนนกกินอาหารเหล่านั้นเข้าไปจนมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงสีของร่างกายก็จะนำไปให้ ปลากินอีกต่อหนึ่ง ปลาจะได้รับผักที่หนอนกินเข้าไปในรูปที่บดละเอียดแล้ว ทำให้ปลาสามารถย่อยได้ง่ายดูดซับสารอาหารเหล่านั้นได้ดี

สำหรับผักที่ให้น้ำเยอะ ๆ เช่น มะเขือเทศ ให้เอาส่วนที่เละ ๆ เช่น ไส้ในออกก่อน วางทิ้งไว้ให้สะเด็ดน้ำจึงค่อยให้หนอนกิน เพราะน้ำในผักซึ่งมีจำนวนมากอาจจะทำให้หนอนนกจมน้ำตายได้ สัตว์เลี้ยงที่กินหนอนเข้าไปยังจะได้วิตามิน เกลือแร่ และ คุณค่าทางอาหารที่มีประโยชน์อื่น ๆ จำนวนมากเสริมจากผักอีกด้วย

วิธีการเก็บรักษาหนอน
1. เก็บไว้ในที่แห้งป้องกันไม่ให้ ” มด จิ้งจก และแมลงอื่น ๆ ” รบกวน
2. เว็บไว้ให้ห่างจากแสงแดด และ ฝน หรือมีอุณหภูมิสูงเกินไป
3. เก็บในภาชนะที่เป็นของแข็งผิวเรียบลื่น เพื่อป้องกันการปีนออก
4. ไม่ควรเก็บไว้ใน ภาชนะ ผลาสติกบาง ๆ เพราะหนอนอาจจะกัด กินพื้นผิว ภาชนะได้
5. เก็บในภาชนะที่มีฝาปิด และ หล่อน้ำไว้จะดีที่สุด

อื่นๆแนะนำ
ควรมีการทำความสะอาดภาชนะเลี้ยงและร่อนแยกหนอนแมลงออกจากสิ่งขับถ่ายอยู่เสมอ ๆ เพื่อสุขอนามัยของสัตว์เลี้ยง และเป็นช่วยลดการสูญเสียหนอนแมลงได้ด้วย ประมาณเดือนละ 1-2 ครั้ง

ข้อควรระวัง
แต่ควรระวังเรื่องของน้ำเพราะหนอนนกสามารถจมน้ำได้ง่าย เนื่องจากมีท่อหายใจอยู่ที่โคนขา หนอนนกที่เปียกน้ำอาจจะตายได้

Red eared sliders are unique in their own way and therefore require different things to take care of them properly. When it comes to their diet you have to make sure that you are feeding them a mixture of both plant and animal materials.

When they are babies they will require more protein from animals. However, it is still a good thing to feed them a few vegetable materials. Don’t be surprised though if they don’t eat much of the vegetation till they are older. When they become adults you can pull back on the animal materials and feed them mostly vegetation.

You can offer red eared slider pellet food. They have a bit a mixture of the right amount of vitamins and minerals. They are sometimes more convenient for pet owners. But this should not be the only thing that you feed them. It is great if you mix their food up a bit to keep them from getting bored and to make sure that they are getting all of the nutrients that they need to be healthy.

Food To Feed Red Eared Sliders

When it comes to feeding turtles you can give them earthworms, live feeder fish (this includes goldfish, guppies, minnows), waxworms, crickets, aquatic snails, daphnia, earthworms, silkworms, mealworms, and blood worms. These should only be given to small turtles. Adult red eared slider should eat larger animal items.

When feeding turtles vegetation stick with collard, kale, bok choy, mustard, dandelions greens, and dark green leaf lettuce. Never feed them iceberg lettuce because it does not have much nutrition.

If your turtle lives in a pond or aquarium you can always add aquatic plants to feed them. They love to snack on submerged plants like frog-bit, water hyacinth, water lettuce, azolla, anacharis, and duckweed.

Baby sliders need to eat larger amounts of protein than adult sliders do because they have a larger carnivorous side to them. Adults, on the other hand, eat mostly plant matter.

While younger sliders may not eat much vegetation, it's a good idea to still offer them some as it's helpful in getting the turtle to recognize it as food. When they become adults, you can then transition to mostly feeding greens and vegetables, in addition to some protein.

You can also offer your slider pellet food. These, small, easy-to-eat foods are generally fairly nutritious and have a decent amount of vitamins and minerals included. They can also be more convenient to feed for pet owners. However, pellets should not be the staple diet of your turtle. In order to ensure your pet is getting all the nutrients it needs to grow and be healthy, animal proteins and vegetables and greens need to be added.

When feeding red eared sliders animal protein, you have several choices. These include: earthworms, waxworms, crickets, silkworms, bloodworms, and feeder fish (such as guppies, danios, and minnows).

Waxworms are incredibly easy to breed. Any plastic or glass container will work. Any size bigger than 2 1/2 gallons will work. The bedding in the container should be a mixture of bran and honey. Calcium powder can also be added for further gut loading. Fresh apples, oranges, and leafy greens can be placed inside the container to further increase nutritional value. Several fresh twigs should be included in the habitat as well.

The waxworms will begin to turn into pupa in about 2 weeks, a little sooner if kept at a higher temperature. The lid should be a fine plastic mesh, and fine metal mesh, or cloth secured very well, such as taping. The pupa will hatch as moths. The moths will mate, lay eggs and die. New larva will be born from the eggs. To produce more, leave some of the larva in the breeding container. To store as food, place some of the bran/honey mix in a small plastic container in the fridge which will slow down the growth rate.

Waxworms are the larvae of the Pyralidae (wax moths). They are used extensively as food in the pet industry, mostly due to their high fat content, their ease of breeding, and their ability to survive for weeks at low temperatures. Refrigerated wax worms are also popularly sold as fish bait, especially for members of the sunfish family. There are two related species which are commercially bred, the lesser wax moth (Achroia grisella) and the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella).

They are medium white caterpillars with black tipped feet and small black heads. The greater wax moth goes through four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. The life cycle from egg to adult is about six to seven weeks at temperatures of 86°F and a relative humidity of 75 to 85 percent. Larvae pass through seven growth stages (instars) during feeding, with most growth in the last two stages. Mature larvae spin a cocoon and pass into the pupa stage, from which the adult moth later emerges.

Greater wax worm moths are gray or brown, about 3/4 inch long with a wingspread of about 1-1/2 inches. Eggs are white and tiny. Larvae are milky white or light tan and, when disturbed, crawl rapidly backward almost as easily as forward. Larvae spin silken threads as they eat, turning from light tan to dark gray or brown on maturing. Next, they spin their white silk cocoons and enter the pupa stage.

Wax moth larvae should be housed in glass or metal containers such as wide-mouth glass jars, plastic crispers, large lard cans or honey cans. Larvae will chew through wood and soft plastic. Use 20 mesh wire-screens for lids or covers.

Larvae in nature feed on pollen, honey and beeswax in honeybee combs and are, in nature, found within weak honey bee hives, larvae tunnel into honeycombs, leaving a mass of webs, debris and damaged frames. They are considered an insect pest of honeycombs.
